2022 IID 🏆 Awards

Gold Winner – Norhor Xi’an Showroom by SAY architects

The project is located in the office building near the Qujiang pool in Qujiang New District, Xi ‘an. The original was interfered by the core tube of the residential tower, a large number of broken shear walls and multiple columns, so it is a must to divide the space into several broken spaces, which undoubtedly increases the difficulty for designing the second furniture exhibition hall.

According to the existing space type, the designer reserved large and structured space through dealing with the design difficulties of building new wall, constructing unit grid space, and raising the ceiling. Through the combination of the size of furniture and rising of the suspended ceiling, the height boundary is set at 3.1 meters, and the space below 3.1 meters is used as the “background cloth” to make the site more beneficial to display and create a harmonious and comfortable visiting experience.

The space is mainly guided by streamlines, through which each functional area is connected in series. Meanwhile, each functional area has an independent streamline system. Users can feel the changes of different spatial scales and materials through different functional areas along the streamline, and several nodes are interspersed for the space of rest and pause, controlling the overall sense of rhythm.

For the purpose of better matching the space and furniture, we had an in-depth understanding of the furniture scale and brand style of NORHOR and its agents, so we select materials such as wood, glass and texture paint to create a space atmosphere that fits in the NORHOR’s own brand.
