Other aspect that had to be considered on the building is the University’s commitment towards Sustainability and respect for the environment, which led us to search for a LEED Gold Certification.

The faceted geometry of the building takes some influence from stealth technology used in aviation and the aggressive and sharp lines used on sports cars.

We have one of the biggest roof gardens in Mexico, with over 27,000 sq. ft. of landscaped areas over the laboratories roof. These gardens are irrigated with treated waste waters from the building itself.

The design allows the office and laboratory areas to work with enough daylight that it can operate without the lights on for most of the day. And solar panels produce enough electricity to light the common areas during the night.

The buildings revolve around a plaza that houses a XIX century tower that used to be part of a hospital, and was kept as a focal point on the front of the project.

Most of all, this project being a learning and investigation institute, what better way to teach that with the example. Offering their users an ambience on which you can appreciate many strategies on how to conserve energy, natural resources and options that care for the environment on the very same areas where they are learning and working.
