The project is a major remodeling of a reception office and conference room for a small architectural office in Fresno, CA. The intent was to create a welcoming environment reflective of the firm’s work and offer an invigorating and welcoming environment for clients and employees.
The designer wished to be respectful of the 1960’s mid-century modern building while expressing the modern direction favored by the architectural firm occupying the space.
The new reception area and conference room create an open and welcoming environment reflective of the firm’s creative style with contemporary elements that interact well with the building’s existing character. The reception area is defined by maple wood flooring. Gray toned neutral colors provide a soft background for the geometric form maple reception desks that appear to float above stainless steel bases.
Barcelona chairs on an accent colored area rug provide guest seating adjacent to display models and a dark gray linear CMU wall displaying some of the firm’s award certificates mounted in a stainless steel cable system. To complement the existing linear block walls, linear ceiling tiles and flooring were selected. In contrast to these linear elements, geometric casework, angular wall placement and triangular window shapes were used to showcase the design direction of the firm.
The new conference room is placed against the existing north wall windows that look out to a small sculpture garden. An interior frameless glass wall and door at the conference room provides sound privacy and visual openness. The conference room features a custom shaped maple conference table with faceted edges all lined with red swan chairs for a splash of color.
