Innovation is engraved in the DNA of the Dutch and its landscape as seen by its innovative water program and creation of dikes. However, it sometimes seems to be forgotten. WATERLICHT is a powerful and poetic collective experience to remind us of the role and importance of innovation. The installation uses a combination of LEDs and lenses which create an ever-changing layer of light, influenced by wind and rain. An accompanying podcast shares local stories about the impact and potential of water.

Daan Roosegaarde: “WATERLICHT is an inspiration for the future: can we build floating cities, how much power can we generate from the movement of water? Experience the vulnerability and the power of living with water.”

WATERLICHT is created as site-specific artwork for Dutch District Water Board Rijn & IJssel, Museumplein in Amsterdam with more than 60.000 visitors in 1 night, Lumiere London, United Nations in New York, Nuit Blanche Paris, UNESCO Schokland, the Afsluitdijk, Kunsthal Rotterdam, the Bentway Toronto, and Jameel Arts Centre Dubai.
