Doji Golds and Gems Group, a jewelry powerhouse in Vietnam, commissioned Mercurio Design Lab to do the interiors of DOJI Tower, a built mixed-use development which features a classical architecture design. The brief includes designing the retail, office, and dining areas while respecting the client’s wish to keep the building’s pre-existing classical imprint.

Mercurio Design Lab, an Italian design studio specializing in avant-garde concepts, took the challenge and developed a new style language which is a fusion between the classical and contemporary. The blend resulted to an art deco sensibility when applied in the various sections and functionalities of the building.
Gold leaf, decorative ceiling medallions, detailing in the cornice and baseboard, wall panels, coffered ceilings, and gold finishes emphasized the classical characteristics. The contemporary feel is manifested in the open spaces with large and rounded windows which allow natural light to flow in, fluid and curvaceous walls, and use of modern furniture, ornaments, and furnishings.
A Chinese restaurant, on the topmost level of the building, is infused with an oriental theme but adorned with contemporary designs. An example would be the ceiling which displays suspended silk and glass prism lamps to recall the lanterns used as festival decorations in the Chinese culture.
Further, the 8th floor lobby, although rich in classical expressions, it delivers a dynamic feel because of the striking backdrop panels. Mercurio Design Lab dressed the panels with a customized special motif adapted from the client’s logo.
As the merge between the classical and contemporary philosophies does not draw a clear line to a specific period in architecture, Doji Tower interior brings forth a timeless creation which bestows a peculiar design impression. The combination is an innovation that outlives evolving colors and trends of time and seasons.
