The building’s design seeks to build the neighborhood’s narrative within the project. The design goal was to evoke the industrial past of Long Island City, while also incorporating a modern scheme as evident by the window wall that spans an entire floor and the use of concrete, steel and wood materials throughout building and the lobby as well. The unmistakable two-story high rhythm of exposed concrete and panoramic window walls makes The Jackson a true expression of the industrial aesthetic. Exposed concrete columns and beams create a primary grid, while metal spandrels and wood infill panels create warm, tactile layers which delineate the scale of the façade.
One of the design highlights is also a lobby mosaic designed by Tom Fruin, the artist who created the stained-glass water tower in Dumbo.
The architects weaved a continuous thread of the industrial heritage coupled with a contemporary experience into the residence design; all units have premium appliances, fixtures, hard wood floors and marble finishes. Living spaces offer high ceilings for maximum light intake with ample space to accommodate families. A true highlight is balconies off the living rooms with panoramic views of the neighborhood and the Manhattan skyline.
The building’s amenities offer a 24-hour doorman, a roof garden with cabanas, a children’s playroom, a bicycle room, a 22-car garage, a fitness center and a residents’ lounge.
