Peranakan style is a unique blend of Chinese and Malay influences that has become increasingly popular in recent years. This style is known for its vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and ornate decorations, making it a popular choice for home interiors. Singapore is a multi-cultural country with strong influence of Peranakan culture in its daily life. To celebrate the culture in one’s very home is indeed a way to show one’s character and idealism.

One of the most prominent defining features of Peranakan style is the use of vibrant colors. Bright reds, yellows, and greens were used to create a bold and lively atmosphere. These colors were applied in intricate patterns and designs, such as floral motifs and geometric shapes. These patterns can be found on everything from tiles to furniture, and with combination of plain color, everything were being tied together to achieve a cohesive look.
Another key element of Peranakan style is the use of ornate decorations. Intricate prints, elaborate chandeliers, and detailed tapestries are all common in Peranakan homes. These decorations are made from materials such as wood, metal, and silk, and are designed to add a touch of luxury to the space.
In addition to bold colors and ornate decorations, Peranakan style also focuses on functionality. This means that furniture and other elements of the home are designed to be practical and functional, as well as beautiful. In this project, we featured traditional style built-in storage solutions, mostly in the living area, to help keep the space organized and clutter-free.
We favor pieces that are both modern and minimalist. This means that we designed furniture to be sleek and simple in design, with clean lines and minimal ornamentation. This allows the bold colors and ornate decorations or prints to stand out, while still providing comfortable and functional seating and storage options.
A unique glass pendant lamp were fixed above the dining area to illuminate the dining area. This acts as a feature piece in the congregation point of the house, where family members gather and dine together. Next to the dining area is a pristine white kitchen, with Peranakan pattern in monochrome present in the linings. The very idea is to introduce a modern touch to the home, whilst still having Peranakan elements in it.
This Peranakan style approach is a great way to add a touch of luxury and elegance to the project. By incorporating bold colors, ornate decorations, and functional furniture, we created a space that is both beautiful and practical. Whether traditional or modern look, this project has totally achieved the outcome it desires.
