With convenient access to major transportation hubs and arterial roads, navigating around the city from Alexendra Peaks is effortless, allowing residents to explore Singapore’s myriad central attractions with ease.
Concept Structure
Capitalising on its prime location, the design strategy centers on spatial porosity that nurtures community ties. We achieve contextual harmony through a terraced skyline that preserves key urban view corridors. At the pedestrian scale, a borderless ground plane fosters circulatory harmony between built and open space.
Heritage Nuances
The site boasts strong heritage links, harkening back to its history as a site for low-rise gridded Singapore Improvement Trust (SIT) flats, symbolizing a pivotal era in Singapore’s urban development. These flats served as homes to generations of families and are revered for their architectural significance and cultural heritage. Additionally, the site holds a significant place in postal heritage, with the site having played host to Alexandra Post Office (APO).
Building on the rich heritage character of the site, heritage is not only preserved, but reinterpreted—appearing in gestures big and small across the development.
In particular, circulatory routes double as platforms for heritage references, where community placemaking is reinforced through recalling heritage found in wayfinding elements, such as postal histories on floor markers that are reminiscent of the Alexandra Post Office.
Liberated Living
In devising the unit plans, the living areas comprising the living room and bedrooms are designed carefully to be beam-free. This allows for maximum flexibility for our residents to adapt and reconfigure the internal spaces of their units based on their evolving needs at different stages of life.
Mid-level refuge floors intersect the vertical volume of the blocks and serve as high-rise communal spaces, supporting communal interactions and facilitating inter-personal exchange among residents. Residents are also treated to soaring views of the urban skyline at these mid-level spaces.
A soaring central atrium serves as the spatial centerpiece, anchoring the super high-rise blocks. This atrium functions as a passive stack ventilation shaft, promoting vertical natural airflow and light throughout the building, fostering a comfortable and sustainable living environment for residents.
Bridging Spaces The commercial boulevard exemplifies porosity through its integration with the carpark structure, connecting the street directly to the waterfront promenade along Alexendra Canal. This commercial node serves as a rest stop, offering mid-journey facilities and transitional amenities for users along Alexandra Canal park connectors. A calm pause along the journey, we designed this space to welcome the wider community with thoughtful community provisions and a place to recharge.
