2025 GFD 🏆 Awards

Gold Winner – Aura Bodrum | ACE Architecture

The Aura Bodrum project features 18 unified villas, positioned on a hill that slopes toward the Aegean Sea. This topography informs the spatial arrangement and orientation of the villas, ensuring unobstructed sea views and a seamless integration with the natural landscape. The consistent slope allows for a single-type villa design, enhancing visual harmony across the site.

Locally sourced natural stone and real wood are key materials in the project, chosen for their aesthetic alignment with the region and their sustainability. These materials not only reflect the area’s character but also reduce the environmental impact by minimizing transportation. Stone cladding adds thermal mass, regulating interior temperatures, while wood introduces warmth and texture, blending the architecture into the landscape.

The design responds to Bodrum’s Mediterranean climate through passive cooling strategies like sun breakers and deep-set terraces. These elements provide shade, promote natural ventilation, and reduce the need for mechanical cooling. Large windows encourage cross-ventilation, while framing views of the Aegean Sea and enhancing the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Terraces extend living areas outward, blurring the lines between architecture and nature. Consistent materials and minimalist detailing reinforce this fluidity, making outdoor spaces integral to the overall design. The project’s architectural language draws from local vernacular, blending traditional stone and timber with modern, clean lines. This balance between tradition and modernity creates an architecture that complements rather than dominates the landscape.

Each villa is oriented to maximize views of the Aegean Sea, with the architecture following the natural flow of the land. This design ensures that the visual connection to the sea remains central to the living experience, while the site plan respects the natural topography and enhances the sense of place.

In conclusion, Aura Bodrum is a thoughtful architectural response to its setting. With its use of locally sourced materials, climate-sensitive design, and seamless integration with the landscape, the project offers a living experience that celebrates Bodrum’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
