  • Hokime, a reference to the art of raking gravel into precise patterns often found in Zen gardens;
  • Renzu, a transmissive optical lens that focuses or disperses a light beam through refraction;
  • Noren, a traditional Japanese fabric divider hung in doorways, used to protect the home from the wind; and,
  • Sumi, a type of black Japanese ink used for painting and writing.

Versatile and timeless, the Hikari Collection is designed for a wide range of interior settings, such as hotels, residential, healthcare, and educational or institutional establishments. Whether it’s the meditative linearity of Hokime, the textual shapes in Noren, the optical intrigue in Renzu, or the mist-like effect of Sumi, each Hikari pattern gracefully engages the interior.

The design process began with many nature-inspired formations, evoking a sense of tranquility, peace, and calm through delicate-yet-effective surface design. Every one of them involved layers of hand-sketching, photography, manual manipulation, editing, tracing overlays, and various digital modifications to achieve the final result. The final patterns—all customizable in colour and scale—are also offered in different substrates: metallic, smooth, high gloss, textured, etc. The multitude of customizations gives these timeless patterns an endless lifecycle.

As the world emerges from the wormhole of the recent global pandemics, the Hikari Collection intends to provide a moment of pause, hope, and tranquility as we look to brighter days ahead.
