BDP Quadrangle’s renovation of McCain’s flagship office is an exercise in post-pandemic innovation, transforming a traditional office into an inclusive, hybrid workspace that encourages collaboration and connectivity. Recognizing the shift in work culture following a year of remote work, the goal was to create a welcoming environment that energized employees while celebrating McCain’s brand identity. Located in a historic brick-and-beam building, the project retained the natural beauty of the space while introducing modern elements that support a flexible and tech-enabled working experience.

Our priority was to design spaces that fostered creativity, social interaction, and collaboration. This included open lounge areas, branded graphics, and flexible workstations. Meeting rooms were doubled in number and outfitted with the latest technology, with video-enabled spaces for seamless remote communication. We integrated acoustic mitigation techniques throughout the walls, floors, and ceilings to ensure that meeting rooms would be easy to use and avoid disrupting adjacent working areas.
The project embraced sustainability by integrating existing office elements into the redesign, limiting waste while refreshing the space. We added ancillary furniture throughout the space, meticulously curating each addition to match with what would remain from the existing office space. This aligned with the client’s vision for the space and their sustainability goals, minimizing waste and honouring the previous office design in a fresh, new way.
Brand identity is a crucial element of a destination workplace, especially for the flagship office of a large, high-profile brand. We introduced the McCain “Fry” as a motif throughout the space, seen in custom-made potato-shaped linear light fixtures. In the cockpit meeting room, we added a petal-shaped light fixture, speaking to a “potato flower” motif. The brand colours were integrated through furniture, colour block film on glass doors, and wall sconces. In lounge areas and open workspaces, branded wall graphics were designed and implemented.
“Third Space” Strategy
The design introduced a variety of collaborative spaces, each with a unique function, such as the multi-purpose room for wellness, meditation, and nursing, emphasizing inclusivity and employee well-being. Height-adjustable desks, a universal washroom, and acoustic treatments throughout further support the diverse needs of employees. The kitchen, previously underutilized, was reimagined as a social hub fit for gatherings. Café-style work areas, modular meeting rooms, and operable partitions provide flexibility, allowing spaces to fit individual or group work.
The thoughtful blend of collaborative and private spaces, combined with distinctive branding elements, invites employees back to an environment that feels both familiar and invigorating, supporting the evolving demands of a hybrid work culture.
