In the ground-level design, we drew inspiration from the local traditional settlement texture and materials. Through a dispersed architectural layout, we carefully enclosed several courtyards of different levels, aiming to meet various spatial needs. The functional blocks are combined in a natural, fluid, and relaxed manner, creating a vibrant and rhythmic spatial experience that transports people into a marvelous world that is both traditional and modern.
In the upper-level design, we abstractly extracted the spatial forms of traditional academy courtyards and the “four waters returning to the hall” concept of Jiangnan residences. This has resulted in a complete courtyard layout that accommodates rational needs for teaching, lodging, and exhibitions, while ensuring convenient connections between different functions. Additionally, this design creates a tranquil and profound inner courtyard space, allowing individuals to experience a sense of calm and peace.
The roof design serves as a natural extension of the ground-level activity space. We adopted a relatively orderly square layout, maximizing the use and liberation of the entire roof space. This design not only resolves the conflict between limited site area and diverse outdoor activity needs but also provides an open and free activity space, perfectly unifying the functionality and aesthetics of the SHUANGXI COLLEGE. The design of SHUANGXI COLLEGE seamlessly integrates tradition and modernity, reflecting the heritage of nostalgia and culture while showcasing the vitality of renewal and innovation. With its unique design concept and clever spatial layout, it has become a stunning highlight in this mountain and water environment.
