Located in Hohhot, the “Pearl of the Grassland,” Taikang Mengyuan is the group’s 25th flagship senior living community in China. Rooted in the region’s natural beauty and cultural richness, the community embodies Taikang’s “Five-in-One” eldercare philosophy: a warm home, an open university, an elegant club, a healthcare hub, and a spiritual sanctuary.

Design Concept
The grasslands of Inner Mongolia stretch endlessly beneath vast skies, where the horizon blurs into waves of golden prairie. Light filters through drifting clouds, casting ever-shifting patterns across the land—an ethereal dance of sun and shadow that defines the region’s poetic beauty. In this open and generous landscape, the people of Hohhot have long upheld traditions of gathering: under tents or open skies, they come together to sing, dance, share stories, and celebrate life’s rhythms. Whether in quiet conversations or festive communal meals, these gatherings reflect a culture of warmth, hospitality, and deep connection to nature’s cycles.
The concept, “Gathering beneath the drifting clouds,” draws from local traditions, depicting elders joyfully sharing life under broad skies. The metaphor “Cloud of Reunion” shapes the architectural core—a gently curved Vitality Center forming the heart of the site.
Master Plan
The community features an embracing spatial layout to foster connection and warmth. The Vitality Center anchors the site symbolically and functionally. Independent Living units in the north use terraced and rotated designs for optimal light and social interaction. Nursing Care units in the southwest form an L-shaped garden, promoting intimacy and accessibility.
Core Experiences
Design reflects the interplay of light and space beneath Inner Mongolia’s clouds. The Vitality Center offers fluid transitions among sunlit courtyards, garden nooks, and starlit interiors—blending nature with daily life. Along a symbolic east-west axis, five key scenes evoke regional natural elements:
Atrium of Cloud: A welcoming entry hall featuring a cloud-shaped roof, blending smart systems with immersive spatial experiences.
Valley of Wind: A breezy linear courtyard connecting the center’s two wings—ideal for outdoor gatherings.
Hall of Light: A sun-filled dome space inspired by steppe culture, acting as the social and cultural hub.
Garden of Trees: A tranquil landscape with facilities for health, wellness, and fitness, anchored by symbolic trees.
Lake of Stars: A water therapy zone with a starlit ceiling, offering renewal and healing under the “mother” element of water.
Construction and Progress
Mengyuan officially began construction in mid-2022 after BIAD winning the design bid. The project is progressing steadily and is expected to complete by 2026. As a flagship in northern China, it builds on Taikang’s extensive experience in cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Wuhan. The project reflects a matured eldercare model, enhanced by regional cultural adaptation and rigorous construction standards.
