Inspired by dental tools which are indispensable in dental care, the design concept is derived by abstracting the curves and lines of dental tools and integrating them into the different interior spaces. For the design of the reception and waiting area of the Dental Care Training Centre, the visitors/teaching patients are welcomed with a large feature wall showcasing an illuminated dental tool that extends to the ceiling as they enter through the glass entrance doors. The design element draws inspiration from a high-speed handpiece, an essential dental tool which is equipped with a LED light feature and water sprays. The lighting feature represents a jet of water which penetrates from the high-speed handpiece and radiates out to create a unique and striking visual effect.

The interior design focuses on the experience and usage of both students and teaching patients, using a palette of neutral tones to create a calming environment to alleviate any dental anxiety of the visitors/patients. Taking inspiration from the natural colour of a tooth, the shade of ivory with a soft, cream and warm-tone has been selected as the dominant wall colour to create a warmer ambience instead of using pure white and clinical colour tones.

A feature sofa in a curvaceous, undulating form is placed in the centre of the lobby space to echo the curved profiles of dental tools. Using a blue accent colour to signify the colour of general mouth wash, a striking contrast against the interior space adds interest to the space. An integrated reception area featuring a tooth profile using pearl white shade showing a luminous, like glistening pearls represent sparkly clean teeth. Overall, the design aims to create an identity that is unique to this dental training centre and create a serene interior space which enhances patient’s comfort. Using dental tools as the main generative concept, the design theme is seamlessly translated to the design of the adjacent Dental Care Visitor Centre. As teeth are the major component in dental care, the design of the visitor centre is inspired by the four types of teeth, premolars, incisors, molars and canine. Hanging display shelves with large profiles of the found main types of teeth are installed along the glass windows to create a visual attraction and promote dental care by displaying items such as teeth models and dental tools. Decorative lighting in star shapes are featured in the ceiling which represents the dentistry symbol of a gleaming tooth which signifies dental health and protection. The interior design embodies a contemporary yet relaxed environment to conduct seminars, workshops and talks related to dental care.
