Key Objectives
The project prioritizes:
- Resilient Environment: A resilient environment is the foundation of sustainable development, particularly in ecologically sensitive areas like the Dapeng Peninsula. This project focuses on preserving the ecological baseline while adopting innovative coastal treatment strategies to balance sustainable development and environmental protection. Preserving the natural integrity involves targeted and classified measures tailored to the unique ecological characteristics of the region. Ecological enhancements include building resilient bays and fostering biodiversity within land-sea habitats. The coastline, a vital part of the peninsula’s identity and tourism appeal, demands thoughtful intervention to address habitat loss, and the pressures of development. The plan introduces a multi-faceted approach to coastal treatment and the exploration of coastal environment preservation.
- Sustainable Development: The Dapeng Peninsula master plan advocates sustainable principles, through low-impact, community inclusive approaches. It enhances microclimate through optimised wind corridors, shaded green spaces, and coastal water features, ensuring visitor comfort. Low-impact development minimises ecological disruption by clustering facilities, using permeable materials, and integrating eco-friendly infrastructure. Environmental sensitive measures, e.g., restored wetlands and rain gardens improve flood resilience and support biodiversity, have been applied. Among the plan’s achievements is the nomination of the Longqi Bay EOD (Eco-environment-oriented Development) as a key national ecological and environmental protection pilot project. Additionally, Dapeng has been awarded the prestigious titles of “Cittaslow ” and “International Dark Sky Community ” in recognition of its significant strides.
- Integrated Urban Form: The “One Belt, One Spine” strategy aims to connect land and sea-based experiences, benchmarking against popular destinations like Sentosa, Singapore, and Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. The plan includes an 18-km Coastal Vitality Belt for recreation and an 18-km Green Ridge Corridor for adventure trails. Sustainable mobility, including pedestrian pathways, bike-sharing systems, and eco-friendly shuttles, ensures accessibility without ecological disruption. Over 30 recreational programs and 15 action plans guide sustainable tourism growth, aiming to make Dapeng an ‘all year-round’ tourist destination.
- Community and Cultural Integration: By establishing a sharing economy between vernacular residents and visitors, the Masterplan promotes active community involvement ensuring that residents play a pivotal role in planning and development. The integration of regional IP brands and tourism products encourages business collaboration and boosts economic vibrancy.
The Dapeng Peninsula Masterplan fosters a thriving community by uniting nature, culture, and tourism, setting a benchmark for ecological preservation, sustainable development, and integrated urban design. By blending EOD principles with cultural and tourism initiatives, it is poised to become a vibrant, sustainable, and exemplary coastal destination for the world.
