Gold Winner – Guangzhou Huabiao Fenghu Yujing Villa | Shenzhen Creative Space Design & Decoration Co.,Ltd

When we explore the profound connection between design and life, we usually find that space and aesthetics are like twin stars shining brightly in the starry sky. The design concepts of the East and the West are like a spiritual dialogue between two civilizations. Simplicity and luxury, seemingly contradictory concepts, actually depend on each other in the context of life. The integration of different style elements is a positive response to the symbiosis of diverse cultures in the era of globalization, as well as the blending and reshaping of cultural souls.

Guangzhou used to be a significant port city along China’s Maritime Silk Road, where the “hybrid style” integrating Chinese and Western elements was ubiquitous. This project is a model villa residence within a mountain-adjacent community in Tianlu Lake National Forest Park, Guangzhou. Comprising three above-ground floors and two underground levels, along with three petite leisure courtyards on disparate floors, it demarcates multifunctional zones for relaxation, reception, and recreation. Based on this, we contemplate how, in modern life, to innovate while inheriting, to graft diverse cultures and modern aesthetic concepts onto the bedrock of local culture, thereby constructing a living space that genuinely adheres to human nature, is replete with profound connotations and capable of resonating with the soul.

East and West, simplicity and luxury. The design and interpretation of the villa are rooted in the living habits and cultural heritage within the Lingnan impression, and also stem from the visual perception and decorative aesthetics brought by Art Deco elements. In accordance with the regional reception and banquet customs, we have arranged a traditional Chinese central hall space and a family tea room. Meanwhile, multiple functional spaces such as the living room and dining room maintain a traditional symmetrical layout and a clear hierarchical structure, reflecting the balance and restraint in Eastern culture. The family hall, audio-visual room and guest rooms, on the other hand, conform to the concept of modern living space and more vividly embody a relaxed and simple design style. In the application and integration of spatial elements, the characteristic elements of Lingnan and traditional Oriental patterns and artifacts, such as the pot-ear walls of traditional Lingnan architecture, glazed flower windows, pine stones, green bamboos, dancing lions, ceramics, landscape paintings of the Song Dynasty, and art installations derived from the Chinese classical literary masterpiece “Journey to the West”, are tastefully incorporated and exhibited in various spaces. Meanwhile, the geometric line elements of Art Deco permeate the ceilings, facades, space partitions of the villa as a whole and the stairs connecting the five-story space. The enamel art that combines Chinese and Western styles, the flower and bird paintings by the Italian court painter Giuseppe Castiglione, modern metal and glass Chinese antique-style lamps and background wall decorations are also skillfully combined and coexist harmoniously in various spaces.
