The Guanlan Commercial Plaza-Cultural and Sports Center features a total construction area of 9,802.7 square meters, involving 9,345.7 square meters of above-ground floor area, 457 square meters of underground floor area, a plot ratio of 0.58, a building density of 20.5% and a greening rate of 25%. The project will integrate the surrounding resources to create a Xidian New Town Cultural and Sports Center integrating swimming pool, library, education and training, badminton and table tennis hall.

The project enjoys rich surrounding ecological resources, and its west side is adjacent to Guanlan Commercial Plaza. The south side of the project faces the east-west urban ecological central park, and the land needed for the stadium and parking lot is reserved between the cultural and sports center and the park. The design hopes to give the building a “P.U.R.E.” (P=peaceful, U=urban, R=regeneration, E=ecology) temperament. Nature and architecture are integrated, and the minimalist form, pure color and simple structure respond to the noise and bustle of the surrounding urban environment, creating a quiet place for the city.
The design uses the techniques of facade construction and modernism style to create a “window of Xidian”, forming an interactive urban window facing the ecological central park. Step by step, the architects eliminate the curves until all that is left are crosses of vertical and horizontal lines, separated from each other. At the same time, as the main display target of the building facade, the modular grid of different sizes is used to form a “Mondrian” geometric abstract painting mechanism to create an urban art. It can also work with continuous glass surfaces to form a perceivable, constantly changing interface. The shadow created by the continuous movement of the sun can bring a sense of dynamics to the building, which, depending on the position of the viewer and the transformation of light and shadow, giving the building a new face and life.
The volume-like facade reinforces the building form to achieve a clear outline and concise plane lines. A large area of window introduces natural light into the interior to create a comfortable and bright interior space, and allows people to better perceive the stadium and ecological park on the south side, thus realizing the integration of nature and architecture. Finally, the project presents a grand, simple, majestic architectural image, demonstrating the combination of solidness and emptiness, rich sense of modern science and technology and characteristics of the times. In terms of construction and materials, each floor is given a different structural height based on its specific function, so that the rational order of facade and space can be shaped under the premise of satisfying the use function. At the same time, the organic combination of metal, glass, stone and other materials creates a simple but remarkable architectural image and a well-arranged architectural rhythm, and a high-quality, functional and experiential city parlor for citizens is born.
