The principle of design is people-oriented, starting from the history of the local and the hospital to seek characteristics, by “water-town artistic conception, historical heritage, future technology, green humanities, environmental ecology and low carbon, convenience and efficiency”. The design adopts an innovative approach through scientific overall planning, aiming at the pain points of hospital management, to build an international high-quality medical center that is actively shared with the city, integrating medical treatment, scientific research, teaching and exhibition.

The design combines the water system with the concept of natural ecology, dividing the building group reasonably, connecting and supporting each other, and the partitions are relatively independent to avoid unnecessary interference. Reasonable space planning will further strengthen the clear and efficient connection of medical space, in addition to endow the building with more levels of public space, especially the pleasant waterfront space with the context of the water town. Taking nature as a design element, it is introduced into the building to form a multi-level three-dimensional garden system, and use the high-quality natural environment to relieve the pressure between doctors and patients and improve medical efficiency.
Integrated with the function of the project’s own medical museum, the design uses an abstract method to reflect the context of Keqiao Water Town and the history of the hospital on the facade, giving the building a sense of culture and history.
The architectural style continues the positioning of water-town feature, culture, greenness, future and technology. With the theme of “floating water and flowing clouds”, the symbols of natural elements are implemented into the whole concept. The flow of water and the etherealness of clouds are displayed on the facade of the building with abstract techniques, so that the building and the surrounding environment are harmoniously integrated, which is both classic and full of high-tech sense. The design creates the unique image of a hospital with cultural connotations, openness and inclusiveness. The medical center will become the new carrier of the Second Hospital of Zhejiang University, and the new city card of Keqiao, leading the urban development.
