Now, the canal system still affects the urban fabric like ripples, connecting and shaping various public spaces. Considering the new campus as key part of district public space system, as well as the education concept of “learning from nature” in gardens, we hope that the new school will integrate into urban public spaces like ripples and complement the shared public facilities in the neighborhood.
02 Ripple Campus
Because kids in childhood (2nd-12th) prefer recreational sports and close to nature, while adolescence (12th-15th) prefer professional sports venues, there are two characteristics playground in campus. School playgrounds, gymnasium, library and auditorium will be open to the neighborhood community. We use ‘ripples’ as a conceptual tool to channel the dialogue between the campus and the community, and to respond flexibly to future changes, such as user age groups due to a clear declination of birth rate in China in recent years,
03 Green Campus Changzhou is not only a traditional Jiangnan water town, but is also known as a modern ‘City of New Energy’. We hope the campus can echo both the history of urban development and city impression. Through BIPV, we can use photovoltaic panels as a new energy landscape to translate the historical impression of the “white walls, slopes, roofs and black tiles” of Jiangnan water towns, and create a new green and energy-saving campus in Changzhou.
