Gold Winner | Timeshare Hotel Project In Sayram Lake | ZEN Architects

Known as “the last tear of the Atlantic Ocean”, Sayram Lake is a shining pearl of Xinjiang and an important link on the self-drive loop in northern Xinjiang. The project is located at the edge of the tourist town on the east side of Sayram Lake, only 1.6 kilometers away from the Sayram Lake. Taking into account its special location, the design emphasizes the comfort and experience of the journey. The plan hopes to provide 24-hour consumption experience and one-stop accommodation facilities, so that people can enjoy the beautiful scenery and experience local culture, food and entertainment while avoiding the wind and cold. The above-ground construction area of the hotel is about 38,000 square meters, involving a boutique hotel with 80 rooms and 3 high-end hotels and commercial facilities.

The overall plan adopts enclosed layout, emphasizing the sense of wholeness of earth art and the beauty of natural lines. The overall design is developed along the terrain, and the topographic height difference is fully utilized. The volume on the west side of the lake is considered to provide lake view for the hotel, the business service center is arranged in the core area of the site. The zigzag architecture blends with the landscape, and the land art technique is used to outline the dynamic site lines to realize integration with the natural scenery of Sayram Lake.

The architects carry out a number of site visits, they take inspiration from the most natural elements of Sayram Lake, such as the rolling snow mountains, the lake water and the stones by the lake. The streamlined earth design plan frames the site totem full of artistic atmosphere and a clear spatial relationship, together with the design that takes into account the height difference, they create spaces themed on “mountain”, “water” and “stone”.

The texture of the facade of the boutique hotel comes from the mountains and stones surrounding the site, and the design hopes to create an image that is integrated with nature and grows out of the earth. Specifically, it uses the local roughened Sharhili gold stone and the dark grey metal plate with a modern texture to demonstrate the distinctive features of the area. In the building made of raw and natural materials, this “modern” space brings life and vitality to the hotel. The surfaces of the serviced apartments facing the road use a compositional patchwork to form the overall texture and create a varied facade. Together with the smooth texture of the building, they present a smooth and uniform form under the sun.
