As it aims to create a woodsy campus, we want to create an oasis on campus with tranquility and peace, offering our students plenty of green space, green trees and open sky. Under the shade in the school “yard”, students’ various activities are not preset. They can play, study and exercise safely and uninterruptedly, and fully develop themselves towards their own personality.

Located in Chengnan New District of Fuyang City, Anhui province, the project covers a land area of about 247 mu with the above ground building area of about 120,000 square meters. More than 6,000 students have studied here with a 15-year consistent education system applied.

Design inspiration and innovation

School is the place to seek knowledge, inspired by the connotation of interpunction “?”, we built the gymnasium into a half-arc question mark “?”, integrating a sloping building design with the environment as a whole and highlight the center of the school. The roof of the buildings rises slowly from south to north. The south roofs integrate with the ground greening, while the north roofs naturally form outdoor climbing base, forming the center of the forest campus; Students climb high and look far away.

Kindness is our pursuit of the campus dimension design.

In this design, the most critical characteristics of the site are the sight line and the walking routes of people. Here, the dominant factor in architecture is the dimension, instead of the style. Across the campus, the walking road, combining with undulating slopes, steps and zigzag ramps, attracts children to play, read and communicate here.

The planning takes pedestrian walkways as the axis and forest greening as the center, dividing the whole campus into five districts and one center.

Unique and continuous corridors are set up to create venues for a variety of communication.

The varied corridor space meets multiple functional needs, such as exhibition gallery and study corner, which makes walking more interesting. At the same time, it becomes an endless learning street in space and time, and constitutes the core field of open education.

The form of courtyard groups + inner and outer corridors + varied roof is adopted in the plane layout of each teaching area. And the courtyard is taken as a cluster to organize various teaching activities. They are both independent and connected.

Richness, rationality and ease are reflected in the facade and modeling design. Meanwhile, the pursuit of modern conciseness and European gorgeous decoration and exquisite modeling are combined in the detail processing. In parts, the design emphasizes axisymmetric academic style with a sense of order, which is spectacular and gives people a comfortable integrated design principle. Folded plate and facade brick wall are applied to the roof, which can enrich the facade modeling elements.
