Hyatt Centric Gaoxin Xi’an is located in High Tech Zone Xi’an City, China, with comfort driving distance to Xi’an city center. Designed by Architect Kengo Kuma with the concept of “ Woven Silk “ . The 15 storey tall architecture has a building exterior featuring woven steel frame expressing a woven silk skin over the glass facade. A stretch of bamboo garden along the length of the hotel public space is not only for garden view but also protecting the hotel from the neighboring commercial activity. It creates a sense of relaxation for our guests during their hectic journey. This also became the seed of the design concept where we celebrate the historical Silk Road journey that started from Xian.

Level 1 is designed for hotel public area with a double storey arrival, which is also connected to the featured long open space bar and restaurant that opens to the bamboo garden. Level 2 is the Gym with plenty of natural lights. Part of Level 2 and Level 3 is the generous hotel Back of House operation area includes offices, staff lockers and staff canteen with generous natural light to make sure the hotel team members also enjoy a pleasant work environment.
The hotel has total of 231 keys guestrooms. Besides Standard and accessible guestroom, all suites enjoy a large outdoor balcony with comfortable seating and greenery to enhance guest experience.
The guests are savvy explorer who want to find what’s new, fresh and exciting wherever they are. They are culturally tuned, embrace eclectic ideas and always sincere.
A design narrative inspired by Xi’an originated element of “ Silk Road ” culture, layered between ancient and modern “ Transportation “ to celebrate the story of ” Journey “.
Guests are greeted at the arrival by the idea of the ancient city gate using a modern interpretation of city-wall brick in glossy lacquer finish. It is also framing the hotel signature artist mural that illustrates in cheerful color car engines that are radiating rays of vibrant-joy.
Formal concierge station is transformed to feature local artists and design products to celebrate young designers and entrepreneurship. Informal communal table with easy power access serves as pop-up working space, and allows hotel operation to
freely adapt for a variety of uses.
The main feature of the public area is the long and tall space that houses a chic Chinese bar & bistro with a beautiful view of the bamboo garden. The feature wall mural runs the entire length of the long space, depicting the history of transportation. Starting from the lounge area, the wall mural features three artistic horses from Qin, Han and Tang dynasty. Open island bar in custom woven- leather straps, and hanging retro-car lamp inspired woven metal sculpture anchored the long space providing all day beverage services from morning coffee to the late night cap. Furniture is an eclectic mix and matches, incorporating color from the mural wall. Comfort table height and featured furniture that allows both drinking and dining. Recycled old magazine and miniature car models accessorized the space to strengthen the transportation story and elevate the sustainable spirit.
Open kitchen in golden glazed porcelain tiles inspired from local Tang Dynasty’s three color glazed porcelain artifacts. Food-counter bring memory of ancient market food-stall with hanging lanterns.
For acoustic control, while keeping the easy maintenance hard floor surface, wall mural use innovative sound adsorbing paint-able coating that maintain the natural looks of traditional mural while enhancing the acoustic quality of the open space. Affordable and sustainable contemporary terrazzo is selected as main hard-finish material for all areas. Abundant natural lights safe energy simultaneously while creating intriguing shadow effect.
Arriving at the guestroom floors, guest’s mood is turned to resting mode. Room numbers adapted the horse shoe shape with a personalized art taken from various part of lobby featured mural. Carpet pattern mimic multi layer wheel track footprint connect to the journey storyline which produced a vigorous pattern that is easy to maintain.
Guestrooms comfortably welcoming with custom warm bronze grain wood wall and floor, gives a cozy homy feeling. Eye-catching headboard art is related to traditional silk screen printing theme of “ Whispering silk and song of horses”. Guest friendly use of simple-mood light switch, comfortable height desk in textured glass with with wheel pattern to bring in subtle reference to the journey story.
Fully equipped bathroom in bright warm ivory tone terrazzo and accent green porcelain tiles inspired from ancient “Yue Kiln” of Tang dynasty. Large vanity accommodates hotel amenities and guest’s personal item. Operable sliding door add visual connection between spaces while bringing natural lights into the bathroom. After a goodnight rest, guest leaves the hotel with unforgettable stay and a memory of the city history as the journey hub of Silk Road.
