Qianhai Museum, as one of Shenzhen’s ‘major projects,’ is a concrete measure to implement the national strategy of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Shenzhen’s goal of building a pilot demonstration area for socialism with Chinese characteristics. The architecture is intended to symbolize the ‘Tree of Civilization and the Beacon of the Era,’ signifying the continuous heritage of Chinese civilization and the growth of all things.”

Qianhai Museum in Qianhai will be built as the new cultural landmark representing the Chinese heritage and future development.
To this end, the architectural design contains the three core ideas:
- A tree of civilization: Continuing the lifeblood and prosperity of China
Qianhai Museum is designed as a flourishing tree of civilization. It will become an unquestionable cultural landmark around the Qianhai Bay.
The buildings grow out of the mountain, sea, city and the cultural context of the Project.
A sunken quadrangle cut into the landscape, gathers cultural venues.
The main building is elevated to provide public spaces on the ground level and create a 3D sky observation platform.
Resultant column-free open space makes for a sky citizen square with attractive mountain and sea views.
The future garden on the roof points to the bay center.
The main entrance/exit is provided along the central urban axis.
Station-city integration is realized in the basement.
The greeneries of Binhai Park converge into a landscaped base for the building.
With multi-level connections and multi-dimensional interactions, Qianhai Museum rises elegantly at the crossroad of the mountain, sea and city in Qianwan.
The double-eave image of traditional Chinese architecture is interpreted through modern approaches into layered eaves. The building skin combining daylighting, ventilation and viewing functions resembles the dynamic beauty of a glistening lake.
Eight groups of cores and a two-layer horizontal structural truss system are designed to serve as the core structural system;
The lower truss layer supports the exhibition halls on the three penthouse floors.
The upper truss layer supports the roof-top exhibition hall and the future garden.
The generous column-free space in between them makes for a sky citizen square.
Folding beams at the cornices and the main structure constitute to a stable framework, with ventilation cavities generated in corners.
Public entrances are provided in the east and south of the building.
The entrance for VIPs, experts and management personnel is provided in the west.
Trucks transporting cultural relics enter the collection storage area from the west and north via sunken roads.
Dedicated elevators are provided respectively for efficient connection between different floors.
- Urban observation deck: sharing future cultural and creative life
The multi-level mixed-use building is perfectly incorporated into the context of city, mountain and sea, offering diverse and fascinating scenarios of future cultural and creative life.
The open-up floor at the entrance creates a place where urban vitality interacts with cultural events.
The public lobby turns into an open city parlor. The full-height atrium through IT-based displays enables all-round interactions and creates an urban space for media events.
Thematic exhibition halls are located on three generous penthouse floors for flexible exhibition setup.
Immersive exhibition halls, full-height exhibition halls, eco-friendly shared spaces and long viewing windows are provided based on the characteristics of architectural composition.
The sky citizen square is designed as an open, column-free space in response to the subtropical coastal climate of Shenzhen.
Cornice slopes are turned into terrace-type theaters on the south and north sides, creating ideal places for visitors to enjoy the magnificent mountain and sea view and witness the rapid growth of the bay area.
The interaction between people and city becomes a diachronic huge event exhibit, an absolute highlight of Qianhai Museum.
The cultural and creative community offers a multi-purpose space for research and studies, technological innovations, as well as communication and exchanges. The green garden offers a pleasant urban environment in the sky.
The daylit roof-top exhibition hall offers a chance for visitors to roam in a cultural supermarket.
The future garden on the roof pointing to the bay center appears like a vibrant Chinese color ink painting.
The below-grade history exhibition hall is connected to the above-grade urban street via a full-height space, presenting a scenario where the past and the present meet and time and space converge.
- A seaside lighthouse: lighting up the future of the bay area
The architectural form of the building resembles a sun-shading tree. Its full-height atrium and open-up sky floor form a breathable cavity for natural ventilation. The aim is to present an exemplary future-oriented museum featuring ecological resilience, energy efficiency and intelligent control.
We envision Qianhai Museum as a world-class cultural facility rooted in Chinese history and culture, growing out of Qianwan, and embracing future cultural and creative lifestyle. The Qianhai Museum will be a tree of civilization flourishing at the center of Qianwan, and a seaside lighthouse that lights up the future.
