Highly regarded worldwide and formerly known as the Laguna Golf and Country Club, Dusit Thani Laguna is a premier golf and five-star hotel resort. Defined by an overarching roof and shared glazed facade, its sleek, curvilinear form soars over a six-story hotel and three-story redesigned clubhouse, marrying the two distinct functions. The discrepancy in height and the awkward union of the two buildings, one old, one new, is disguised by a single and unified roof made with cementitious fiberboards and a marine-grade membrane, displaying a uniform and smooth surface with no visible joints. The result is a dynamic and swooping image that merges with the surging landscape of the resort, appearing less violent to the natural surrounding as it looks like it is one with the golf course.
The roof which makes the architecture doesn’t just enclose the structure but becomes the body. It thrusts up out of the landscape itself, sweeping up from the ground to create a shelter for the hotel before surging on to cover the existing clubhouse, splaying out in the middle to provide an entrance canopy on one side and the frame for the all-day dining room and ballroom/ banquet room on the other. The seamless roof has such a distinctive aesthetic character that from whatever angle it is viewed, from afar and a closer look, it subsumes the ostensibly contradictory functions of club and hotel into a dominant and exciting sculptural form, blending with the scenery and following the original design.
From the golf course, the left side of the building houses the hotel with standard rooms and a group of penthouses with private terraces. On the same side lies a gorgeous pool that spans the entire length of the hotel. At the right side of the building is the clubhouse, where players can relax after a round of golf. The center area holds the golf club lobby, the all-day dining, and the ballroom and acts as a central volume. It kinds of separates the two, the hotel and clubhouse, but also serves as a link emphasizing Dusit Thani Laguna as the perfect space for sports and recreation, catering to golfers and leisure-seekers alike.
Dusit Thani Laguna represents a new development model, one that combines two different functions and one in which the course and facilities form a unity. Moreover, there is an integration between exterior form and internal design where the interiors also express the structure of the building and reflect its curvilinear form. With unique architecture, seamless roof execution, tasteful design, and proximity to the airport, central business district, and major attractions, Dusit Thani Laguna offers golfers and guests a world-class resort experience touched with iconic and gracious Thai hospitality within reach.
