Originally designed by B+W in 2007, Starlite was a design/build project hand-built by the firm’s principals. A steakhouse lounge that harkened back to the rat pack days of the 1950s, that drew inspiration from many influences including John Lautner, stalactites at Carlsbad Caverns, Star Wars, 1970s Italian Futurism, Hitchcock’s North by Northwest, and more. 16 years later, B+W took their original ideas to another level of grandeur for the redesign of this iconic bar.

DESIGN CHALLENGES
Starlite is a revered bar with dedicated customers that are protective of its legacy. B+W was asked to reimagine the original design with nothing to hold them back. Evolving the previous design, maintaining the details and overall vibe, all while creating something new was a tough challenge. The design successfully reinterprets this iconic establishment, elevating the guest experience while preserving the original theme and character.
DESIGN RESULTS
The refreshed space pairs raw, imposing rock walls with rich fabrics and custom furnishings. A sculptural hexagonal, travertine and wood bar anchors the room beneath a chandelier evoking a starry constellation. Warm copper, walnut, and velvet add grounded luxury, while a mirrored ceiling amplifies the cave-like feel. Starlite has been completely transformed into a glamorous version of itself with all new details but the same personality.
