The design idea focuses on the desire to define two distinct architectural volumes on a formal level that can express the presence of the two main functions (Station and Bar), and, at the same time, allow an open dialogue between them and with the surrounding context.

The architectural language chosen is the face-lifting.

The existing building of the bar is covered with a micro-perforated and wavy white alluminum sheet and the new station building is defined by an architectural box on which the perimeter is followed by dark gray aluminum slats characterized by a constantly changing scan.

The new station building is in open dialogue with the external area as it does not have real opaque walls of division with the outside, but rather appears as a fence that defines two well-defined meeting spaces for citizenship: on the podium on which this new volume is positioned, a bench appears for outdoor parking while inside the enclosure the travelers lounge offers sheltered seats for the users.

The new building offers an overall reading of function and place; partly glazed, it has the following functions: building travelers; service container (elevators and toilet for the public) and a small technical room. The glazed body becomes a point from which to observe the surrounding place and then continue towards the railway platform: a covered waiting area where the user finds himself. The interior of the new body of the station is composed of a material wall which gives recognition to the main function of therefore and crossing, same function it is given by the cover, with the relative false ceilings and from the skin that encloses the whole system.

The two railway platforms are reachable through the crossing of the body of station and thanks to the vertical connections that they lead to the underpass treated with panels of dark gray stoneware that looks like blackboards on which lines of light are drawn which guide the travelers.

The new station can be crossed in all its parts, even by people with disabilities: the station welcomes the traveler throughout his stay and arises the goal of becoming an aggregation center, a resting place, a starting point for a journey and a place for socializing for commuters and for citizens.

The founding idea of the project aims to deepen the relationship between matter (the architectural solids) and the internal space (the architectural voids).

The matter, in this design, sculpt and define light and weights of architectural volumes.

In this project, restyling is more than ever intended as a definition tool of a bold and complex language linked to introspective will of the role of architecture in making room for Other, for the new, for research; a discovery of wills hidden and inherent in the place and in the urban environment itself. Until it takes root deeply into the context and transform them dynamics and image.
